Young Boo

His first puppy retrieve at six weeks! He was so proud of himself.

Then he got a tennis ball. He was mesmerized and stared at it for several minutes.

Awesome bloodlines

Years ago I bought a daughter of FC AFC River Oaks Way-Da-Go Rocky. She had many of the traits I was looking for – talented field dog, sweet disposition, nice bone and structure with a beautiful old-fashioned head.

Bred to Chip she gave me two of my heart dogs, Tory and Arwen. They were talented and quick to learn and yet great family dogs.

Then a few years ago I saw a photo of a dog named Tyra on Facebook. She looked so much like Arwen I had to find her pedigree. It turns out Arwen and Tyra were both granddaughters of Rocky.

Tyra (Owned by Deb Leibbrandt)

This is a very talented bloodline. Tyra’s daughter, Ammo , was amateur-trained and handled. She won her field championship and amateur field championship in both the US and Canada, then went on to win the Canadian National Amateur Championship. That’s after winning the National Derby Championship. She also won four double-headers in one year.

I wanted to bring in more of that bloodline. With a bit of searching I found Bleu, one of Tyra’s sons. He graced the cover of Retriever Journal plus he had a Master Hunter title and a field trial Amateur stake win.

Bleu

I bred to Bleu and kept his son, Boo, who looks a lot like his father.

And if you like rhymes, Boo’s father was Bleu, and his grandfathers were Roux and Bru.

Boo is a natural retriever...

At four months old, Boo was delivering ducks to hand.

At six months old, he was introduced to swimming water in a big pond. I think I heard him shout, “Geronimo!”

... and he loves to compete

Boo is learning the rules of Barn Hunt. He did great at finding the rats, but needs reminding that he’s not allowed to “mark” the straw bales.

Once he got used to climbing the stairs and jumping off the dock, he was unstoppable. Dock diving is now one of his favorite passtimes.

He earned his Dock Senior title at his first competition.

Boo is also a wonderful house dog. But who could tell a dog with such a sweet face that he’s not supposed to be on the couch?

By the way he also auditioned as
Johnny Depp’s “body double.” Check it out!
